Still waiting

I have missed being a stay at home wife and mom.  Now that we are in Canada, I’m not permitted to work until my visa comes through, so I am looking forward to taking another crack at it.  The thing I enjoyed the most, and am most excited about is planning and preparing frugal meals.  Going to work ended up costing us more because of the lack of time and energy on my part to properly plan and prepare cost efficient and healthy meals.  I just never learned how to juggle it all, and our food budget (and my waistline) took a huge hit.
While Kevin is looking for work, and I’m here in his sister’s house as a guest, I am investing my spare time reading up on simplicity and frugality, and collecting recipes and ideas I’d like to try, as well as re-acquainting myself with old favorite recipes of my own.  It will be a bit of a challenge, because one of Kevin’s nieces has peanut allergies, so shopping for food that is “peanut free” is a new learning experience for me.
I love to make and use pre-made mixes for baking and cooking.  One of my favorite garage sale finds was a “Make a Mix” cookbook for $0.50.  I used it so much that the binding gave out, but I couldn’t throw it out.  I found a 1-inch binder that was no longer being used for school, and slipped the book’s cover into the front see through pocket, then punched holes through the rest of the book pages and placed them inside.  It is still one of my best friends in the kitchen, and I can’t wait to fill up canisters and containers with best-loved recipes.  Since my book is in storage, I can’t yet share the recipes on my blog, but I have been looking around on the web and am finding even more that I can add to my own stash of favorites.
I’ve also been putting some thought into how my kitchen will be arranged.  Since I don’t know where we will live, I don’t know what kind of space I’ll have in my new place, I am gathering information for a worst case scenario, a too tiny kitchen.  Before we left, I pared so far down on my kitchen belongings, that I now only have what I use and love.  I want to be the same way with purchased foods; in short, simplicity will be the name of my new game.
I’ve also been brainstorming on a new name for this blog.   When God gave me the vision for “new things”, I had no idea there would be so much “putting away” of old things, to make way for that “new” work He had in store.  It became a grieving time, a time of much loss, and for me that in itself was new and different, I had never walked that road before.  Now, I feel like I’m standing on the brink of this blessing that was promised, and maybe I need a new name for that journey.  Until something slaps me upside the head, it will remain, but there is a brainstorm of sorts happening, and there may be more change, at least as far as the blog is concerned.
